We are lucky to have one of the most diverse schools in Baltimore City. To grow even stronger in our awareness and cohesion as a community, a group of Medfield parents are creating spaces for ongoing discussion about racism. We are doing this work because we know when we don’t talk explicitly about race and racism with our kids, they fill in some important gaps with messages that come from other sources like the media. We know the research says children as young as 3 months old notice and respond to racial differences. As parents and caregivers, we want us all to have the confidence that we, and they, can handle tough topics and tough situations. Our hope is to have an open conversation about how to take steps towards raising the next generation to be prepared to navigate a diverse world and confront racial injustice. Join us for a discussion-based workshop, lead by Baltimore City educator Tamika Peters, on why and how to have meaningful conversations with young children about race, racism, and being anti-racist. This event is designed for caregivers from all backgrounds.
