https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0c44a9a62da6f58-book2 As always, we couldn't run these events without family volunteers - thank you! The second in a series of virtual events aimed at why and how we talk about race and racism with our kids, this session will start with a PBS Kids video (10 min) that models these conversations among families from different backgrounds. We will then leave plenty of time for small-group reflection and discussion of how we bring these topics into our own homes.
Register for the event here: http://shorturl.at/GRELP Feel free to preview the video, either as a family or on your own, here: http://shorturl.at/pCT15 We look forward to another open and informative conversation! Zoom link details have been sent out to PTO newsletter subscribers. If you haven't received the link, please email medfieldheightspto@gmail.com. A copy of the agenda can be viewed at the link below.

We are lucky to have one of the most diverse schools in Baltimore City. To grow even stronger in our awareness and cohesion as a community, a group of Medfield parents are creating spaces for ongoing discussion about racism. We are doing this work because we know when we don’t talk explicitly about race and racism with our kids, they fill in some important gaps with messages that come from other sources like the media. We know the research says children as young as 3 months old notice and respond to racial differences. As parents and caregivers, we want us all to have the confidence that we, and they, can handle tough topics and tough situations. Our hope is to have an open conversation about how to take steps towards raising the next generation to be prepared to navigate a diverse world and confront racial injustice. Join us for a discussion-based workshop, lead by Baltimore City educator Tamika Peters, on why and how to have meaningful conversations with young children about race, racism, and being anti-racist. This event is designed for caregivers from all backgrounds.
